Beulah Baptist Church, Bexhill
The Beulah Baptist Church project provides a welcoming new Community Hub in Bexhill, including a large reception and café, a flexible double height auditorium/hall annexe for church and community events, with new meeting rooms, offices and roof garden, with associated Audio Visual, storage and toilet facilities to meet the church's aspirational vision and missional briefing objectives.
The existing buildings are a non designated heritage asset and careful option appraisal and assessment has identified a strategy for careful retention of certain elements of the existing historic structure, with sensitive redevelopment and renewal of others to meet the needs of the project, within planning policy considerations.
The architectural design for the new Community Hub employs a contemporary and sculptural use of natural stone and local red brickwork planes, together with curtain walling and structural glass, with standing seam copper roofs. Sustainable design elements include high levels of insulation, solar photovoltaics, passive ventilation, a sedum roof and underfloor heating with low energy lighting and M&E systems.
